Lot 200 – Mercedes 280S RHD 1969
Estimated Value : £12,000 – £15,000
Wow. They do not come much nicer than this 1969 Mercedes 280S!
Originally imported from South Africa 11 years ago and still has the original SA books and paperwork in its history. The exterior has been treated to a professional respray previously and is excellent. With just the smallest of areas here and there that may need attention at some point. There is no rust anywhere on the body, in fact the vendor says the only rust is on one hub cap! The rest of the cars exterior bright work is excellent.
The interior is a real “Time warp” Beautiful original bright red leather interior with wood in excellent condition. The seats have some age related cracking and a small split on the rear seating. Otherwise it is breath taking and a pleasure to be inside.
Mechanically the engine is excellent with its automatic choke works correctly and starts first time. There is lots of history and details reference work previously undertaken with the engine bay itself being very clean and very well presented. The 4 speed manual gearbox has a column change that works exactly as designed and like the rest of the transmission is also excellent. The electrics on the car are all working with no issues at all
Over the past few years there has been on going maintenance carried out to keep things tip top, with work to the brakes and drive train plus the fitting of a new exhaust. The upshot of all this care being lavished is that this great old “Merc” drives well and everything works as it should. Just a lovely car, being offered with a sensible reserve. One that reflects very fairly we think, the slight cosmetic items mentioned previously.
