Lot 187 – Volkswagen Beetle 1303 1975
Estimated Value : £2,000 – £2,750
“Very solid and drives very well” is the vendors description of this nice condition 1975 VW Beetle 1303. Coming with various bills, receipts and old MOT history in which there is a receipt from November 2016 for a service and full brake over haul.
The 1300cc engine starts up readily with that familiar air cooled note that we all know, soon settling off choke on to tick over. The gear box engages nicely into gear and the clutch operates correctly.
On the road, it is happy to jog along and you soon adopt that “beetle look” you know, that fixed grin and total lack of interest in rushing to get anywhere, it’s a strange phenomenon that effects all owners young or old of these cars.
Interior though not new is very good, being the later model the plastic dash that comes with that is good and there is a nice aftermarket steering wheel fitted. Past that its original and the seats have little wear in evidence. The rubber floor mats that traditionally split and fall to pieces appear to be the originals but are in good condition as well.
Body work is solid with only one or two patches that may need attention in the near future. The rear bumper is damaged from a light impact, which has caused it to rust in places. The vendor is trying to find a good one to replace it with and if he can, will replace it prior to sale (no guarantee though). Underneath the car is good but “if” there was any work required as the vendor will be putting a new MOT on the car, this would have to be attended to. As far as he is aware that is not the case though.
General mechanics and electrics are all good and again will be up to or beyond UK MOT standards. So there you have it, a nice solid Beetle, with good mechanics, a year’s MOT . That drives well and starts on the button and one that with the reserve that is set, will not empty the piggy bank!
