Lot 136 – Ford Escort MK2 Historic Rally Car from the “Steve Tandy Collection”
Estimated Value : £10,000 – £12,000
This very high spec LHD MK2 Escort was campaigned successfully in Finland where it became very well known in those circles. Built with nothing else in mind other than to be competitive in Classic car rallies, no expense at the time was spared and a standard 1100cc 2 door car was transformed into a car capable of winning in the right hands.
Steve travelled to Finland and purchased the car, expressly with competing with his wife as co-pilot, in rallies across Europe. Back here in the UK it was handed over to his race preparation people that refreshed it for him, safety checked it and fitted the then up to date seats, harnesses and other required safety items. Un-fortunately after a couple of light runs out , it became apparent that his health was not really up to the pounding a Rally car gives you so it went into his collection and that is where it stayed.
Condition is very good for a competition car of this age. No rust or any heavy damage and presentable. Don’t get it wrong, this is a competition car so no its paint is not like glass and panels etc will have some distortions. Still a good looking MK2 Escort and one that with a bit of recommissioning, could be used in anger once more.
Running, driving and sounding great with its twin “Webers, you could not build this car for twice its reserve! Supplied with Finnish papers showing it as a 1975 car, you could register it here for road use but it should be spending its time, not on the M25 but sideways somewhere deep in a Welsh forest!
