Lot 152 – Mercedes 300 SL R107 1988
Estimated Value : £20,000 – £25,000
Fresh from an extensive private collection is this beautiful Mercedes 300SL. First registered in December 1988 this superb piece of German motoring “art” has still only covered 103,000 miles and is in fantastic condition.
The bright white body work has been refreshed at some point and is rust free, with just the odd imperfection here and there. The hard top roof does have a very slight kink on the very end of the stainless trim piece at its lower l/h point probably caused by a slightly clumsy removal and placement at some time, underneath is a new soft top hood. Exterior bright work is all present, correct and excellent as are the original alloy wheels. All external lights and lenses are excellent.
Inside is lovely, the blue vinyl and cloth interior appearing to be original and in fantastic condition throughout. There is little or no wear anywhere, even the lacquered wood finished dash inserts have survived miraculously well.
Mechanically it’s more of the same, no known faults and in rude health. The engine is strong and punchy with the gearbox functioning exactly as designed. All the other general mechanics of the car are very good and all the electrical functions operate correctly.
Mercedes really did build a level of quality into the R107, some would say a quality that is sadly lacking today. Well looked after examples are now top of the want list for classic car lovers and speculators alike with prime examples selling for over £40,000. This beautiful car has a reserve that is, in our opinion, below its market value but as this is one of three coming from the same collection, the vendor wants it to sell and let the market decide its value. It will have a new MOT and with the car is a file of history charting its maintenance through the years.
