Lot 143 – Ford Mustang 1970 From the “Steve Tandy Collection”
Estimated Value – £15,000 – £20,000
First registered in 1972 here in the UK, this 1970 Ford Mustang “Fastback” has had a chequered life, by chequered we mean the flag with black and white squares variety. Originally a CJ428 Car, so if you have deep pockets might well be worth restoring back to original, but being sold here as a rolling Chassis with race use in mind.
Part of Steve’s collection the thought of having a full house V8 Yank racer was too much to resist for him. The Mustang was purchased and ran by him at various locations. The engine it came with was pretty tired and eventually was shot so was pulled. Lots of plans were made but time went on and so it stayed in his garage as a future project. This is how it came to us.
There is a rebuilt 351 Engine with it and a late mustang manual gearbox along with an aluminium radiator plus other spares as seen in the pictures.
Considering its life the shell appears to be in good order with no visible rot. Interior is stripped for race use but alongside the race clocks the originals are all there. The original high back front seats are with the car as is the rear one but there are no carpets, door cards etc.
So to race again or restore, that is the question?
